
Buck Belue has made his mark in the world of sports, both on and off the field. With just his name alone, Buck Belue is one of the most recognizable names in college football history. Buck played quarterback at the University of Georgia from 1978-1981. During that time, he helped lead the team to the 1980 National Championship, back-to-back SEC Titles in 1980 and 1981, and consecutive Sugar Bowl appearances. Perhaps his greatest honor was being elected team captain of the 1981 SEC Champions. Buck was named first-team ALL-SEC QB in both his junior and senior seasons, and was chosen as the SEC Athlete of the Year in 1982. In games Buck started, the ‘Dogs were 27-3.
At storied Valdosta High School, Buck started at quarterback all four seasons, leading the Wildcats to a 34-14 record. He was chosen to the Parade All-American Team in 1977, named the Georgia High School Player of the Year, and played in the Georgia All-Star game.
Buck was also an accomplished baseball player. Drafted in the 2nd Round by the Chicago White Sox in 1978, after leading Valdosta High to their only state baseball championship. Buck tossed a one-hitter in the state title game. At Georgia, Buck was a two-time All-SEC outfielder. A career .356 hitter for the ‘Dogs, Buck led the SEC with a .447 average his senior season. Following his dream of playing in the major leagues, Buck signed with the Expos organization, after being drafted in the 6th round. He spent three years in the Montreal system.
Following that stint in pro baseball, Buck played quarterback for the Jacksonville Bulls of the USFL. When the league folded, Buck joined Mike Cavan’s staff at Valdosta State University, where he coached the quarterbacks and receivers, for two seasons.
Off the field, Buck was named Sports Director for the ABC affiliate WJCL-TV in Savannah, where he anchored the six and eleven o’clock news for four years, before moving to Atlanta, where he currently co-hosts 680 The Fan’s Buck and Kincade Show, heard weekday afternoon’s from 3-7. Buck also is a color-analyst on Comcast broadcasts of Georgia football and baseball games.
